JARED SCHORG (0-1) vs DANTE DREXLER (Debut)
Another Singles Showcase Match will be Jared Schorg vs Dante Drexler. Management is looking to fill that field of eight stars for “Cibernetico Assemble!” on YouTube-and victories in this match could certainly sway management to either combatants side. Schorg was impressive in his 2CW debut at Cardinal Sin, but now he faces one of the hottest free agents in wrestling today-in Dante Drexler. Who will walk out of Crown Point with a victory under their belt?

Entry 1.
God, this feels so right. Here I stand outside of the All American Sports Mall in St. Louis, Missouri just hours after Cardinal Sin. I guess you could kind of consider my debut, my on screen debut at least. I’ll be debuting in a few weeks at School of Hard Knocks, but I’ll tell you more about that later anyways. But yeah, I don’t really know how to explain it. Never have I felt so sure about something as I do right now, as I did tonight. It’s not like I’ve hit the big times, you’ll understand that for sure when you listen to this; but it’s the big times to me. The guys here are super chill, I spent some time talking to Riley Owens before the show. I did a training seminar with him a few months back and he was pretty down to earth. I’ll introduce you to him sometime.
But anyways… just know that the reason this feels so good is because it’s just another step to the ultimate dream. The dream of giving you the life you deserve, a life better than mine. I know it’s hard that I’m not there… but I hope you know I never stop thinking about you. Not since you were born. I love you, Damien.
* I hit the stop button on my phone, and email the recording to myself to make sure I don’t lose it. As I do, I look up to see a couple stage hands and referees exciting the building. One of them who parked next to me approaches, Chris is his name. He’s actually just one of the 2CW fans but he does some of their graphic design work and helps promote. Cool guy, talked to him a bit in the crowd tonight. He gets to me and extends his hand, and I shake it as he smiles. *
Chris: An honor meeting and talking to you tonight Sir. See you next time?
Dante Drexler: Hell yeah brother, I’ll be there. Nice meeting you to man. Hit me up on Twitter or something.
Chris: Will do man. Hey actually, sorry to interrupt what you were doing and keep bothering you but I actually have a small wrestling podcast I’m trying to get off the ground. Would you be down to do a Skype interview later in the week about your debut? If not it’s totally cool.
Dante Drexler: No I’m up for it for sure! I love listening to podcasts, it’ll be a blast to be on one! Anytime man, just shoot me a message. And you’re not interrupting, I was done my stupid thing anyways haha.
Chris: Awesome dude, I really appreciate it! I’ll let you know the date and time soon. And what stupid thing?
Dante Drexler: Haha, I don’t know. I came up with this idea during the show, like I said it’s pretty lame. My son Damien is only 4, so he doesn’t really understand what’s going on. It’s hard for me to explain to him why we’ve been living with my parents, his grandparents. Why they’re taking care of him and raising him when I’m away. So I decided to make a voice recording after every “major step” in my career, well my life. That way when he gets a little older I can have him listen to the recordings and maybe he’ll understand a little more that even though I’m not home, I’m always with him.
Chris: That’s not stupid. Not stupid at all. Me and some of the crew are going to go grab some drinks, you want to come out?
Dante Drexler: Nah, thanks man. Maybe next time, I’m going to head home. Long drive back to Vermont to see my boy.
Chris: I got ya. I’ll see you in a few weeks!
Dante Drexler: Take care man.
* He nods, and enters his car. After a moment he takes off, and it’s just me and a few empty cars in the parking lot. I take one last look at the building and smile, before entering my Camry and heading out for my long drive home of just me, an old Bone Thugs N Harmony CD, and the dark sky. *
Monday, June 30th 2014.
* “You don't know what it's like out there. You may think you do but you don't. It's only a matter of time. There's too many of those things. My boy, my wife, I never told them what I really thought. I never even hinted, just, just kept it in, kept us moving, kept it in, kept us moving.” Rick says as he sits down, talking to Jenner. Suddenly my Netflix is interrupted by a Skype pop up. Chris. I pause my show and accept the call. It loads, and finally his camera buffers in and he nods. *
Chris: What’s up man, hope I’m not interrupting.
Dante Drexler: Well I mean, I WAS rewatching Season 1 of the Walking Dead for the 8th time, but I guess you’re not really. Haha. Naw, I think your fans would be pretty ticked off if after a few days of advertising I just blew off your show.
Chris: Like I said, it’s a small time show. I’m sure the 10 people who will tune in would be crushed.
Dante Drexler: Fair enough haha. When we going on?
Chris: Two minutes. Just as a precursor, it’s going to be a super relaxed podcast. Not many questions really, I like to have guys come on and just kind of talk if that’s cool.
Dante Drexler: Well ask my family and friends, I have no problem running my mouth.
Chris: Ha good good. Well hey I’ll get this thing kicking then if you’re ready. It’ll be pretty short so you can get back to your show.
Dante Drexler: Thank God.
* He laughs, and clicks around on his computer a little bit. After a moment, “Click Click Boom” by Saliva begins to play. The chorus goes by, and as the music fades off Chris begins to talk. *
Chris: Hey guys, thanks for coming back and joining us! As you know I’m Chris, this is the Beyond The Bell podcast, and I must say I’m impressed! As of right now we have 35 people in the stream. Usually we don’t have a lot of people view this until after the video is up on Youtube! Lets keep it going guys, go onto your social media and tell your friends about the BTB podcast. But anyways lets move on. Tonight as promised we’re joined by one of the newest additions to the Second City Wrestling roster, a show that I attend very often. This is a man I got the pleasure to meet and talk to at the HUGE Cardinal Sin show a few nights ago. If you watched the show you saw him in the crowd scouting his ‘future victims’. He is the massive, beastly, “Superhuman” Dante Drexler! Hey Dante, thanks for joining us sir.
Dante Drexler: Absolutely. Thanks for the spectacular introduction haha. Anyone who hasn’t seen me is probably picturing this horrifying creature on the other end of camera.
Chris: Well that wouldn’t be a lie. There’s a reason you have a dictionary of nicknames that you were telling me.
Dante Drexler: Touche’.
Chris: Tell the listeners some of the nicknames you were telling me earlier.
Dante Drexler: Oh God… well there’s “Superhuman”. That’s the one that usually sticks. I got that in high school from the gym teacher. There’s “The Jurassic Juggernaut DRex”, or just DRex is a popular one. “The Colossus of Combat” is kind of badass. Someone went further with the superhuman one and added “The Superhuman Superstar” because they thought it sounded more of a wrestling nickname. And there’s more, those are the ones that really stick.
Chris: Well none of them are wrong. Haha but anyways lets get this underway. Tell these people about yourself. The most they probably know about you is that you’ve signed with Second City Wrestling, you’ve created a lot of buzz around the place even to the point of being called “one of the hottest free agents today” by some people in the back, and the fact you could probably bench press an SUV.
Dante Drexler: Well I don’t know about that last one, but there’s really not a whole lot to tell. I’ve been training for like, 4 years on and off. Taking some time off with my son here and there, traveling to different training facilities and attending as many seminars as I can.
Chris: Wow, 4 years is pretty long to be training. Why’d you train for so long?
Dante Drexler: Well because as you’ve pointed out, I’m not a small guy and I’m a huge gym nut. I love working out. So it makes me pretty bulky, and since I’ve been a fan of wrestling since I was a kid the way I looked at it was I didn’t want to be just another muscled up freak that threw a clothesline, did a bear hug, and hit a powerbomb. I told myself if I was going to do this I’ll do it right, and I’ve been getting as many tips from as many people possible because my goal isn’t to be a “great big guy wrestler”, but a “great wrestler” period.
Chris: That’s totally respectable. But anyways, let us get down to the nitty gritty huh? At School of Hard Knocks, you’ll be taking on a man who debuted last week at Cardinal Sin “The International Man of Disaster” Jared Schorg. Again, we’re not going to ask you to come on here and verbally burry Schorg. We, nor our listeners get nothing out of that. So I’ll make it simple, you’re both very new to 2CW, and I’m sure you don’t know all that much about him but what are your thoughts on your debut match being against The International Man of Disaster?
Dante Drexler: No for sure, no way I’m going to come on here and burry one hell of a wrestler. I’ve only seen him compete at Cardinal Sin, but what I saw was very, very impressive. The match got a “That was awesome” chant, and it was the opener Chris. Plus, I’m not afraid to admit I was right there chanting with them. Jared could have easily defeated Kyle Cross or Damian Cole, because the fact is I think they’re all great athletes; and that’s what kind of differs me from most competitors Chris. In this profession I try not to take anything personal. Criticism, fan comments, or even my matches. When I’m in the ring don’t get me wrong, I’m lookin’ to knock off some heads, but at the end of the day, every person who bought a ticket, or bought a DVD, or found the match on Youtube whatever the case may be, at the end of the day my goal is to leave them in awe and wanting more. In the ring yes Jared is going to my enemy. But I have nothing against the guy. Nothing at all.
Chris: Well it’s a known fact about Mr. Schorg that he is a world-traveled superstar and has found great success in many regions of the world in his tenure. You on the other hand, with all do respect and for the lack of better terminology, you’re pretty much a newbie. Plus, this match has huge Cybernetico Assemble implications which pretty much means you’d get a title shot ANY TIME you want. Not saying that if you win this match you’ll be in or vice versa for Jared, but you know management is checking out all the talent. Does this intimidate you?
Dante Drexler: Haha well first off it’s true. This is a huge match for me not just because it’s my debut, but buzzings are going around that anyone and everyone is being watched to see who will get one of the 8 slots in the Cybernetico Assemble match. Do I think they’ll give a slot to a man as new as myself? Probably not. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to bust my ass to show them what I’ve got. Win lose or draw, at the end of School of Hard Knocks, they’ll know who Dante Drexler is.
And yes. This will be my first real match. I mean I’ve had some small time matches, 5 people watching and 3 of them were my best friends; but this is the real deal. So yeah, it’s kind of intimidating. I mean, I can’t imagine anyone in their right mind going into any sort of sport or competition wants to come out of the gate with a loss. But when it’s all said and done if I enter that ring with even an inkling of doubt in my mind, Schorg being the veteran of the match is going to tear me apart. It’s like I need to become a new person pretty much Chris. When I first started training I was afraid of hurting people, afraid of hurting myself, etc. I’m naturally a pretty laid back dude but I worry about things and over think things to the point where I become my own worst enemy. Then, one of my many trainers gave me the best advice anyone could have possibly given me. He sat me down one day and said “DRex, you’ve told me a lot about yourself in the past few months,” and actually, you and anyone tuning in are about to learn how big of a nerd I am. But anyways he said “I want you to look at the Roman Gladiators you tell me you love so much. They were entertainers, but they put their life on the line for combat! I’m sure they weren’t all bad people. Or, you’ve told me you love medieval times. Sword fighting, fencing and such. Do you think they have time to worry with a blade at their throat? What you need to do Dante, is leave your mind in the locker room, and let nature take course in the ring. When that bell rings you need to switch from Dante Drexler, the caring father who’d give a stranger the shirt off his back; to ‘Superhuman’ Dante Drexler... professional wrestler.” So that’s the mindset I need to go into the ring with. A raw, animalistic mindset because wrestling, like nature is all about survival of the fittest. If you go in there looking to make friends, you’re going to get your head kicked in. Period.
Chris: That’s very true. So Dante Drexler, the over 6 foot, pushing 300 pounder is a history buff huh?
Dante Drexler: I’m an everything buff. History, music, comics, wrestling, sports, you name it. There’s not a lot of things in the world you can find that I don’t know a little about.
Chris: That’s for some reason terrifying knowing that the guy I’m talking to could probably put me in a full body cast, and beat me at Jeopardy.
Dante Drexler: Haha what can I say, I’m a rare breed I guess.
Chris: That you are. But hey, anything you want to say to the fans before we wrap this up?
Dante Drexler: Not specifically. Thanks everyone for tuning in and listening to me blabber for a while. I hope you all come out to School of Hard Knocks to see me take on Jared Schorg in my debut match for 2CW, and also pretty much my debut match period. I guarantee you won’t be sorry because A.) and most likely to happen… Jared Schorg is going to show up, give 110% and we’ll tear the roof down. Or B.) if for some reason he doesn’t bring his A game, or he underestimates me, well then you’ll probably see a decapitation.
Chris: I’m sold, and I’ll be there. I hope you all come too! School of Hard Knocks, live July 12 in Crown Point, Indiana! Thank you all for joining me again, I’m Chris and this has been the Beyond The Bell podcast. See ya next time.
DING DING DING.
* The Skype call goes back to normal, and Chris takes a deep breath and takes a sip of his Bud Light he had next to his computer. *
Chris: Another one in the books. That was a blast man, thanks a lot for coming on.
Dante Drexler: Of course, I had a good time man. Anytime.
Chris: You remember that when you blow up on the wrestling scene, right?
Dante Drexler: Yeah, maybe I’ll win the lottery too.
Chris: Haha well hey man, I gotta run. Got to catch up on some things.
Dante Drexler: Right on. I’ll catch ya soon.
Chris: 10/4. Talk to you soon.
* The call goes black, and this time it’s me taking the deep breath. One more step toward really making this dream a reality. Chris’ words echo in my head for a second. “When you blow up on the wrestling scene…”. You know, crazier things have happened. People with far less passion have moved forward in their career just off dumb luck. So who’s to say a year from now, guys won’t be looking at me like I look at my idols right now? It could happen. It could totally happen. But… one step at a time. I have to survive School of Hard Knocks first. *
