The past is just that. Past. Written in the history books for people to look back upon. One year ago I was inches away from the 2CW world heavyweight championship. I fought very hard to earn my spot. I clawed my way to the top while some thought it was handed to me on the silver platter known as favoritism. Let me make one thing clear to everyone listening within the sound of my voice. I am nobody's favorite and I will NEVER take anything that is handed to me in the sport of pro wrestling. I EARN my way to the top.
Apparently I have earned myself a shot at the current world champion Declan Black. To be honest with everyone, Declan is the main reason why I came back to 2CW. You see, most people today are all bark and no bite in pro wrestling. They run their mouths and think that they are hot shit when in fact they are scared puppies. AJ Fairchild is one of those puppies. He said he couldn't be tamed and yet look who is getting her shot at Declan.
While I am honored and humbled to be getting this shot at Declan, make no mistake about it. I want that title around Declan's waist. Even though this is my second match back in 2CW, I plan on rewriting the history books. I plan on fighting and clawing my way to the top. I don't want handouts. I don't want you to pull your punches Declan. When I face you, I want your best Declan. I have wanted a challenge in pro wrestling for a while now...and you are it.
You have two choices Declan. Either man up and give me your best shot, or shut up and don't show up. I know you will take the first choice. I know you will give me your best and I will do the same. This match to me...is more than just a match. I want redemption for what I lost a year ago. I want to put my own mind at ease that I can in fact hang with the best that this sport has to offer. While you are contemplating what to say to me, just think of this match as an appetizer to what I have in store for you when that title is actually on the line. I will see you soon, and bring me something besides flowers and wine. Make sure you bring me your title. I would enjoy seeing it at the show.

Why so silent Declan? It seems that you are very busy, but you can't seem to fit this match in your schedule? I figured that you would be more prepared for this match than myself. I mean, you have been around longer and I have been away from the company for well over a year. Are you shocked that I am back? Are you scared that what I told you on social media would come to pass?
You better be scared.
I have more of a desire now than I had when I was here last year. I have more of a passion for this business now than I have had in my entire career. If...no wait....WHEN I get this win over you Declain I will prove that I am ready to hang with the big dogs. You now can't get away with telling the fans that I am not able to hang with someone like you. I am more than ready to take your head off of your shoulders.
Prepare yourself for the ride of your life.
I have been waiting for this shot. I have a new outlook on my career now and your title is the one thing I need to complete this outlook. The forecast for you is a bleak one with a chance of losing everything you hold dear in the next few shows. I am going to be the one person that haunts your nightmares. I am going to be the reason why you never sleep at night. The loved ones you have will question why you are looking pale and the only thing you will see is my face. The only thing that you will hear is my voice.
Your title is mine.
In due time I will get that title from around your waist Declan. People run their mouths and claim they should be at the top of the food chain here in 2CW. However I back up that talk with the action I provide in the ring. While you are focused on other people, I am focused on you. I am out to prove you and other people wrong. I am out to show you that I will be your next contender and I will gain that title soon. When you least expect it, divinity will slap you in the face.
Your future is nothing. My time....is now.

Hey, @marisolhawkes.
Sorry to keep you waiting. Things have been busy for me lately, you know? What with getting married July 6th, moving back to Sydney for the summer...and still being the most decorated Heavyweight Champion @2cwrestling has ever seen. Humblebrag, I know, but hey, look at the stats. But even with all that, you can bet your last dollar that I'm laser-focused on our match at #REdefine006. I'm as focused as I was when I beat Jake Keeton to win this title, as I was when I beat Grayson Shaw to defend its honor, and as I was when I beat Jack Owyns to conclusively prove that I'm the best this company has to offer today.
But hey, my interest is roused for this match, even with my 2CW Heavyweight Championship not on the line. It's the first time I'm facing a friend. Now, I'm not against that. In fact, when Jason Parker Olesen came and found me to tell me Jack Owyns pussied out of our rematch (sorry, "retired from the business"), you were the opponent I handpicked. Even outside of title defenses, I'm only as good as my competition, and you certainly fit the bill as a worthy opponent.
You're good, Marisol...but you've been away from 2CW for nearly a year. You couldn't just coast on your reputation. AJ Fairchild was the perfect opponent for you to come back to, and you proved you're still up to that challenge. But one match doesn't make you top contender to my championship. Beating me certainly would, but here's the thing. You're good, but you're not...me good. I haven't been beaten in singles competition in a year. I won two world titles in that time, and to date, I've lost neither. I've had one of the better 2015s of anybody in the sport, professionally and personally.
You are my friend. I support you all the way. You're going to be at my wedding, and you're a person I can rely on. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to hit you as hard or harder than I did Owyns. It doesn't mean I'm going to have any more mercy on you than I did on Shaw. And it doesn't mean I'm going to beat you any less than I beat Keeton.
I have responsibilities as 2CW Heavyweight Champion, and one of them is to be the best wrestler this company has to offer, day in and day out. Beating you is just an affirmation of that responsibility. I sincerely hope you won't take what I say now, or what I do then, to heart. This is simply the way I must be. I'm happy you're in 2CW, Marisol, I really am. I wouldn't have tried to convince you to come if that wasn't true. But that doesn't mean I'll allow you to take my title or a win from me.
With my best wishes, Declan Black (@realdeclanblack)

You never convinced me Declan. Let me make that perfectly clear to you. The company I worked for at the time went on a major hiatus and I had to make a choice. Hang up my boots or come back to 2CW to fight. I made the choice to come back because I knew that guys like Silkk, Pariah and you would push me to the limits of what I could do inside that ring. Do you not understand words that I have said in the promos before this?
Past is just that. Past.
I am not looking at my past. I want to prove myself to you Declan. I want to earn everything I get in pro wrestling. I can't help it if Jason Parker Olesen looks back at what I have done. I can not help it if he thinks I can take 2CW to the next level. He maybe looking at you and considering what is 'best for business' and in his head you may not be that diamond to invest in. You haven't been put under that pressure that makes you a diamond in my opinion and to be honest, I really hope that you are ready because whether you like it or not, I am that pressure that will make you crumble.
I feel that you are taking me very lightly Declan. We maybe friends outside of the wrestling ring, but inside of it you are considered my sworn enemy. Now some people may say that I am looking past this match and that I am looking towards taking your title...but it is that very reason that motivates me to win this particular match. I pin your shoulders or break your arm, then I get one step closer to realizing my dream of being the 2CW world champion. You say that Owens 'pussied out' of your match for the title. Well you are looking at a contender who isn't fearing anything or anyone anymore. I am ready for you Declan. No matter the stipulation. No matter how long we have to fight in this one match, I am ready for you. Now here is a question I hope you let sink into your head.
Are you really ready? Or are you just like Owens and a coward to face me?

*The camera shot opens on Declan Black, in a Miami Storm football jersey and jeans. He's sitting in a high-backed leather chair behind a desk, and given the ornateness and distinctiveness of the desk, there could be only one setting for this promo: The Black House in Miami, Coral Gables to be precise, in the shadows of the University of Miami. One important article that can't be forgotten is slung over Declan's left shoulder-the 2CW Heavyweight Championship belt. Declan begins speaking, in a tone languid enough to portray calmness, but with an unignorable hidden edge that betrays it.*
Marisol, it seems you've forgotten a few things, so as the champion, let me refresh your memory. I got this match made. JPO could've thrown me in with anybody I wanted, but because I said your name, you got the nod. That's why you're in this match, don't get it twisted. I picked you because as a champion of the very highest order, I need championship-caliber opposition to prove myself against. Yeah, Mari, you're good. But the fact is, you are not as good as I am. Championship CALIBER doesn't mean championship MATERIAL.
I am the man in 2CW. I am one of only two champions ever to make two successful title defenses, and on July 11th at Youth Gone Wild, I make it three against Grayson Shaw. I am THE longest reigning 2CW Heavyweight Champion of all time. I didn't get here by accident, or by underestimating any opponent, you included. Outside the ring, I break down your strategy, and inside, I break down your body. It worked on Owyns and Shaw...so tell me, Mari, how do you plan to fare any better than they did?
I appreciate and I respect that you have goals, and I am honored that you found my title to be worth chasing. But if you have any delusions of beating me non-title, much less taking my championship? Then you need mental therapy to match the physical therapy you're going to need as a result of trying that. Marisol, you're my friend, and I cherish that, truly I do. But when you're a champion, especially THE champion, friendships dissolve. Nobody means more than my thirty pounds of leather and gold.
When I won this championship, I vowed to restore prestige and honor to it... to REdefine it, if you will. And over the last two months, I've done just that. But as far as I've come-my job isn't done yet, and I've got a long way to go. If I lose to you, I'll have failed a major part of my job-being the best wrestler in this company, day in and day out. And I cannot, and will not, tolerate that.
*Black affects a smirk.*
So do your best not to take this ass kicking personally. Just business.
*Declan glares into the camera resolutely, determined to be the greatest in a role that demands it. It is on this image that we fade to black.*

(The following is a blog post from DeclanBlack.com, dated June 17th, 2015.)
I can't afford to be at anything under 100%. Now more than ever. The challengers are again circling, looking for shots at my 2CW Heavyweight Championship, hoping to catch me off guard. Not only do I have my old friend Marisol Hawkes this week, I have Grayson Shaw on July 11th at Youth Gone Wild. I have James Slikk knocking on my door. I have Johnny Ajax wanting his shot. I have outsiders, people from other promotions around the world, that want shots at the most prestigious championship in the business today, which is exactly what the 2CW Heavyweight Championship is with me holding it.
You'll see, in the coming weeks, what else came out of my meeting with Jason Parker Olesen recently-namely, a new wrinkle to the rules of the Heritage Championship that should prove interesting, and should even further heat up the competition in that division. But hey, I'll let him announce that, all in good time. For now, all I have to do is look forward to my challengers. And no matter who you are, Slikk, Shaw, Ajax, Marisol, or anybody else, whether title or non-title, if you face me one on one, you will be defeated.
I see some champions in other places trying to duck challengers. Trying to hide, trying to wait out a long title reign. But I am a fighting champion, proudly so. And I am that because every time I defeat another opponent, I add a little more prestige to the 2CW Heavyweight Championship, and to Second City Wrestling as a whole. I prove myself that much better than anyone else in the business today. If you don't see my title and know I'm the best, then look at how I defend it. And better yet, look at how I continue to defend it.
Marisol Hawkes is my opponent this week, and hey, she's among the best. I encouraged her to come, and if you need proof of that, look at the tweets. Yeah, Mari, you had a choice when your former home went defunct, but it didn't have to be here. Any promotion in the world would have gladly welcomed a woman of your exceptional skillset. But you chose to come here, and I'll admit, I wasn't at your house with recruiting brochures. I didn't need anything but my title to lure you here. See, Mari, I know you pretty well. You're not a woman who likes to leave a job undone, or half done.
You were Number One Contender once for the title I now hold, but you never did get your title match. I'm happy to give you the opportunity to prove you still deserve to challenge for the title, but make no mistake, Mari, that's all it is-an opportunity. But at #REdefine006, I'm going to show you that you shouldn't always answer the door when opportunity knocks-because it just might leave you Blacked Out.

(The following is a blog post to DeclanBlack.com, dated June 18th, 2015.)
People think that anybody can be a champion. That anybody with a dream and a whole lot of pluck can just go on their merry way and represent a company to the nation and to the world at large.
Those people think that because they've been raised in a warped society. They've been led to believe that life is fair, or, at least, it should be. Everyone deserves the same crack at everything.
I know the truth. I know that life isn't fair, it isn't balanced, simply because life isn't meant to be fair or balanced. There is such thing as predestination, people. We are all cogs in some celestial machine far beyond human comprehension. But not all cogs do the same job.
Some cogs are replacable. They're one of millions. You grind that cog up, you pull it out, and you put a new one on in its place. The world turns, and those discarded cogs are inevitably forgotten.
A champion isn't one of these cogs, isn't one of many. There are a select few people walking the face of the earth that have the talent, the charisma, the intelligence, the drive, the hunger, the motivation, the thousands of attributes that make a champion just that much better than anyone else. It is the gift, the sacrifice, the purpose of these noble men and women to provide heroes and villains to the masses, to act as role models in order to guide the lives of those masses. These are not the cogs that can be simply thrown out, discarded like so much garbage. These are a rare breed.
Does being one among this rare breed make me better as a person than anyone? Of course not. It just means that I have a different purpose. And I proudly step to the responsiblility that this purpose affords. Diamonds aren't better than any other stone, just different. And a diamond is exactly what I am. No need to press...I came out of my wretched mother a diamond. I am not some Midwestern boy who impressed a lot of people with my pretty flips, who people wait with bated breath to see finally get destroyed. And you'll never hear me say, or have printed on a T-shirt, "Fight Black Fight", or "Win Black Win", or any other such ridiculous saying. I was born motivated, and that motivation has driven me through every day of my life.
Marisol, if you need such sayings, such stories, such paradigms, to motivate yourself? To convince yourself that you can beat me? To make some futile attempt to make me believe I won't beat you? If you need them, cling away. But it won't change the fact that you're just not a member of that rare breed-never were, and never will be. At #REdefine006, I will show you that, friend or foe, I am better than anyone in 2CW-because I was meant to be.
