A dejected Faolan Reid is backstage after the match with Sasha Foote that he lost. Of course he had heard the fans chant ‘this is awesome’ but it just wasn’t enough he wanted to win. He knew that at When World’s Collide was going to happen soon that was his next chance to do well.
After the loss Faolan went to the gym and he started to work hard again. There was no rest for the wicked when he got a notification on his phone from twitter. There he saw a tweet from his next opponent at When World’s Collide Geki Nitoh .
I guess with a loss you learn a lot about yourself.
Aye, the fans started to chant about how awesome that match was against Sasha Foote but I wanted to win. I wanted to be the one with my hand raised so I could say that I took on one of the best that Redefine has to offer and I beat them. But here I am sitting backstage dejected. Now you might be wondering why I have a sour look on my face but you see losing to me is like kissing your sister or cousin whatever you want to call it. Aye, you learn about yourself when you lose but it is something that I don’t want to do again any time soon. It hurts to lose and I just can’t take it, it might have been one loss but it was a loss that I didn’t want.
At When World’s Collide I have to get better and I have to beat Geki Nitoh. He won his match he was able to get his hand raised so he is going to go in there with some confidence and I have to try and take that confidence away from him and beat him. I know that just like me he has wanted to be in this business for a while and here he is at Redefine trying to make a name for himself. Trying to show his father that he is doing well. His father didn’t want to do it at first but he finally let him. But I wonder if he let him just to shut him up or if he decided to allow him because he wanted to see his son do well.
Aye, either way he is here in Redefine and he is trying to make a name for himself. I want to make a name for myself as well and people will probably say that you did well against Sasha your name is growing but losing only gets you so far. Geki wants to do well against me he has called me impressive. That makes me smile a little smile on these broken teeth I have, but I still want to be even more impressive and to do that I have to beat Geki.
He smiles as he gets up and walks back to the gym.
The picture came into view, clearly being streamed from a cellphone camera. Front and center would be The Toku Titan! Geki Nitoh. Nothing but the biggest of grins, Geki would be surrounded by that same group of people he referred to as family. They would be cheering, before leaning onto him, showing their full support, Geki laughing aloud at this. Today's getup would be a blue shirt, decorated with the design of his favorite, KyoryuBlue. Clutched in his right hand would be a replica prop of a Gaburevolver, the yellow gun Henshin Device of the Kyoryugers. He had it almost slung over his shoulder with the barrel resting on that same shoulder. The ones behind him would calm down a bit as Geki began to talk.
"Win, lose, or draw, I will always walk out with my head held high and a smile on my face. I am a happy person, nothing will ever change that. It was one of the biggest targets my trainer is hoping to adjust. But no way, I'm going to prove you don't need to be made of stone to succeed in this business. I refuse to lose my smile, for anyone or anything. Call it being naive, I don't think it's that. I think that it's more just me being me, ya know?"
"Like, last week, I picked up my first win here in this company. The feeling I got there was worth any of the disappoint I may have felt in my matches beforehand. The fact that I am here, with the trust of Redefine Pro, is enough to bring me over any loss. Maybe that's something you need to learn from me, Faolan Reed. Every time I go out there, victory isn't the first thing on my mind, it's doing my best. It's pushing myself to my limits and if those limits aren't good enough? Then I'll better myself. I'm not going to beat myself up over it and neither should you."
His smile taking on a more reassuring glow to it, he would continue on.
"Beating me isn't going to make you that much more impressive Faolan. Going out there and giving every ounce of fight in your body no matter how battered, bruised, or broken it may be. That's what makes you impressive. It's not wins or losses. At least that's my outlook on wrestling."
A firm nod of his head, black hair falling freely from behind his ear.
"You brought up something we have in common, how much we want to be in this business. In the same breath, you brought up my father, a man who hates this business. He forbade it in the beginning but once he saw how serious I was about it, he had to give me his blessing. My only other goal than doing my best is to prove him wrong about this business. It won't break my smile, you won't break my smile Faolan. That's all there is to it!"
End of scene.

That same cell phone camera brings to you the following scene. A brown wooden dock overlooking crystal clear waters provided the backdrop. Near the railing, a black haired female, dressed in a modest black bikini, would be basking in the sun in a chair. A bit more of the view would be shown before The Toku Titan! Geki Nitoh would become the focal point of the picture.
A bared chest would be the only thing shown for Geki. As usual, that bright, cheery smile would be shining across his features. That long black hair tied back into a ponytail, Geki would speak.
”When I look at or watch advertisements for When Worlds Collide and I look at my name...Faolan's name in the little section we have for our match, it says Redefine Showcase. I don't think this is something my opponent understands the importance of. We were chosen to showcase what Redefine Pro has to offer. This isn't just an ordinary match, I'm not saying that. But, to me, this is more important than Championship Matches.”
“The fact that the higher ups chose us, two guys who aren't as far up the ladder as most, to showcase the company in the big inter-promotional show...that shows how much faith they have in us. It's a little bit overwhelming when you really sit down and think about what's riding on our shoulders. We're not here to win a championship, to fight someone from another company, to settle a blood feud. We are here because Redefine Pro felt that we would be able to showcase the company the best.”
Geki would turn around, looking out to the gorgeous waters, his smile softening ever so slightly.
”It's our responsibility to go out there and show the world why we were chosen. I expect nothing less than the best you have to offer at When Worlds Collide. I don't want the effort you put forth when you went against my friend Sasha Foote, I want better. I want you to go out there and give me every last drop of fight you have in you...and then I want you to give me that much more.”
“I don't want just your blood, sweat, and tears left in that ring, Faolan, I want your bones, your organs, even the little hairs on the back of your neck, leave those there too.”
Laughing out, Geki reached around, rubbing the back of his head with his free hand.
”People say I can't take this seriously enough. That is so far from the truth, Zordon couldn't see it. I have never taken anything more seriously in my life. I'm going to show just because I'm The Toku Titan! doesn't mean that I'm not taking this seriously. At When Worlds Collide, you're going to see everything...and more...that Geki Nitoh has to offer. And whether it's Gokai-Oh striking you down or Abarekiller taking your head off of your shoulders, I'm going to walk away...with a smile.”
Faolan Reid is on a weight bench with a couple hand weights next to him. He picks one up and does a couple curls with his right hand and then he does the left hand. He drops the weight and looks at the camera.
Do you really don’t think I understand what this match is going to be like Geki? I know we are here representing Redefine showing off what the company is all about and sweat and maybe a little bit of blood with be split on the canvas but lad you don’t need to come out here and tell me how important When Worlds Collide is going to be. I’ve been in that ring and you’ve been in that ring but to question me in how important this match is, is a slap in my face and I will not stand for it lad.
He shakes his head and he gets up from the weight bench and walks around the room. Not many people are in the gym as it is late and the gym is about to close. He looks at the other people and nods his head. He stops and loos back at the camera.
You want me to give my best and I will, I want you to stand across that ring from me and give me your best because that is what this business is about it is people giving their best trying to win, trying to make a name for themselves. I know I have said that a lot of times lately but it is true and I mean it.
Geki I’ve seen you around all of the time backstage with that smile across your face sometimes I want to slap it off of you to see if you can have a different look on your face. But lad keep that smile when you get in the ring with me so I can fight you and I can beat you and make you frown just a little bit. You might love this business because your father has allowed you to do this although in the back of his mind he wants you to do something more with your life. Geki you might have made the wrong choice in your career because when you face me you will see someone that doesn't give up lad. Someone that stands up and fights and once I get that Celtic Cross on you, you will have to tap out or well pass out from the pain lad. I lost once and I will not lose again it is pretty much simple as that.
So smile a little bit more Geki because even if you don’t like it I will break that smile.
"Nay Faolan, Thar be no way ya 'ave eet en ya tae break m'smile."
As per usual, the cellphone camera would provide the feed for The Toku Titan! Geki Nitoh. He would be seated on the railing of a balcony, overlooking a beautiful view of the city. Night had fallen and the buildings lit up as far as the eye can see. Geki would laugh out after speaking in that accent. Ever present would be that bright smile of his.
"Faolan, how petty are you? How petty of a person do you have to be to have such an urge to break someone's smile? Do you have a problem with my happiness? Are you really that miserable in your life that you have to actually try and ruin someone's happiness? Let me fill you in on something, Faolan. Nothing you can do, short of cutting the lips off of my mouth, can ever break my smile. Sure, you may break my bones but you will never take my smile. In life, you'll get a lot further with a smile than with a scowl, remember that friend."
"You keep bringing up my father like it's something familiar to you. Was your father the same? Did he not approve of your career either? If not then I would appreciate you not bringing it up because you have no idea how it feels to have one of your last remaining blood relatives to not support you in your passion. But that's why I am truly blessed to have such an accepting second family. While we're not blood, our bond is as close as you'll get to family."
Despite those intense words, Geki still kept that smile beaming.
"I noticed something, you said my saying you don't understand the importance is a slap to the face and in the very same breath you said you feel the urge to slap the smile off of my face. Is it only okay for you to provide the face slappage? That's kiiiiinda hypocritical, dontcha think?"
He shrugs, his smile never wavering.
"I agree with you though, we do deserve this. It's like Sasha said, she thinks we have the potential to steal the show. If we go in there and pour everything out, there's no doubt that we will be what people talk about on their drive home, we will be the ones they tell their friends about tomorrow morning. They might have came for the Main Event, but we will be what sticks to them."
"Faolan, if you get that Celtic Cross on me, then I will have to pass out because I will never give up. I have way too many people supporting me. I will not let them down. I will not let my father down. I will not let Sasha down. I will not let Redefine Pro down. I will not let everyone in my second family down...and most of all, I will not let myself down. My smile is unbreakable, Faolan."
Geki my wee little lad I have talked about your father to see how you’d react and you reacted how I thought you would.
Faolan Reid was standing outside of the hotel that he was staying at. He shook his head and started to walk towards the hotel.
People have always accepted what I have wanted to do for me to answer your inquiry about my family. I never had to beg to do this Geki. I always wanted to do this and I ‘ave always been able to do this. Nothing big there and for you to question my family kind of rubs me the wrong way but what should I expect from a kid like you.
He shakes his head again as he gets closer to the hotel he sits on a bench outside of the hotel and watches the people walking in and out of it. All of them smiling he nods his head and looks back at the camera.
Geki, my lad. You have a smile that is always on your face and you think that will push you to greater places and lad it might but to push it into peoples’ faces gets a wee bit annoying but I again I expect that from a kid like you. Now you’ve said that you don’t want to let Sasha down I ask you why don’t you want to let her down? Is she part of the higher ups in this company and I missed something. You see she shouldn’t matter to you if you live up to her expectations or not.
Don’t get me wrong I like her and I consider her a pal but for you to stand there and look in the camera and say you want to impress her makes no sense unless of course you are trying to court her and want to bed her.
A little bit of a laugh escaped his lips as he looked at the camera.
You’ve questioned my resolve in this match and that is why it is a slap in the face. Don’t you get it Geki? When you say something like that it hurts me. It hurts that you don’t think I get that this match is big for the both of us. I lost and I ‘ave to get back up to the top. If I lose again what ‘appens to someone like me? I just don’t see you getting the fact that questioning me is not a good thing. Where a slap in your face is in the ring. This is outside the ring where you question me. Now Geki I don’t care if you don’t tap out because if you don’t I will make you pass out. Just try me lad. It will be the worst mistake of your life if you do that.
He gets up and walks into the hotel as the scene fades.
Not the one holding the cellphone this time, Geki Nitoh would be front in center, in front of a rather impressive gymnastic equipment display behind him. All smiles as usual, Geki would begin to speak.
”There's too many people in this business that seem to feel the need to make others as unhappy as they feel themselves. It's not cool. What do you obtain by trying to break my smile? Is it personal? Do you find my smile offensive? Maybe if I scowled a little bit, we'd be closer? Well that's not going to happen, you don't seem to get it. My smile is the only thing that keeps me going sometimes.”
“Before I began my quest to become a wrestler, I was a stunt man. I'd take dives from multiple story buildings, get thrown through the air by explosions that Micheal Bay would nod at. But at the end of the day, no matter how battered, beaten, or bruised I was? I'd always have my smile. And that took some of the pain away. I'd be lying if I said it took all of it away because I remember some really bad nights.”
Geki shuddered at the mere thought of it before laughing out with a shrug.
”But I always picked myself back up, I always kept smiling. I learned early in life that a smile is better than any back handed comment, a smile is better than a handful of Tylenol after getting thrown around like a ragdoll. But that's okay, Faolan. I have a reason to smile. I completely understand if you don't. I won't hold it against you. Different emotions for different people."
Behind Geki, a young woman would be perform various acrobatic feats upon the balance beam. Geki looked over his shoulder, his smile growing that much bigger.
"I fight to impress her. I fight to impress all of them, my family. I'm going to repeat myself when I say I fight to impress Sasha Foote as well and according to you, Faolan, that means I'm trying to "bed her." This might be a foreign concept to you but, it's okay to be friends with a woman without wanting to sleep with them. Sasha Foote has given me so much support as I've struggled in this business, for that, I'm going to fight with everything I have in me...and more...to impress her, to make her proud of me. Not because I want to sleep with her, but because I owe her that for her support."
"You asked a question, if you lose again, what happens to someone like you. It's the same thing that happens to anyone who loses. You have to pick yourself up and try harder next time. It's easier if you keep a smile during the whole thing, but I don't expect you to do that. Maybe you'd be a happier person if you did. Either way, slap to the face or not, we are going to steal the show."
A smile is the first thing we see from a cell phone camera. Then a shake of a head as he shakes his head his read hair moves and we can tell that it is Faolan Reid.
Geki, do you really think that this fight is personal?
He laughs and closes his eyes as he holds up the phone.
Aye, lad I said that I wanted to break your smile but it was all run around that is what this business is about. I say something you say something. It is a good back and forth my lad. But when I say I want to break your smile and it hits you that ‘ard then lad you really need thicker skin. You need to look at yourself in the mirror and smile and say that it will be alright.I might have belittled you or whatever you want to call it but lad that is what this business is all about.
I get the fact that you want to impress that lass Sasha Foote and aye you might not want to bed her but I would worry about impressing other people not just her. She isn’t going to get you higher up on the card. She isn’t going to get you title shots so like I’ve said before I don’t see what you gain by impressing her. Oh don’t worry I am not going to say the bedding thing again because that was a little bit off the mark and you got defensive and all of that.
He shakes his head.
Now lad I’m smiling right now because I want to show you that I can smile because you brought it up that we are different people or whatever. And lad that is what this world is about. We all can’t be carbon copies of each other because then why would we be on this planet. When I posed the question about what happens if I lose or whatever and you tell me that I need to smile more and all of that junk. Lad, I don’t need to smile you need to realize that I’m happy in my life lad so don’t try and come at me thinking that you know what my life is like. I have a fiancé and I have a kid along the way so I’m ‘appy. Now lad I might not put a smile on my face but I’m ‘appy. Very ‘appy.
He sighs then shoots a big smile on his face.
Soon Geki we will get in that ring and we will wrestle. We will put on a good show and we will show the fans that Redefine is one of the best companies around. Lad, I need you at your best I don’t need excuses when the match is over.
Good luck.
He reaches up and turns the phone off as the scene fades to black.
Night had fallen as the feed provided by that cellphone would come to life. Geki Nitoh would be seated upon the edge of a small dock, his feet submerged into the water. Someone else would be holding the phone this time as Geki looked out at the reflection of the moonlight dancing across the surface of the water.
"Seeing you smile makes me happy, Faolan. Hearing of your fiance and future child, it brings me joy to know that you are in a good place in life. If you need to know anything about me, I am a good person. It makes me happy to see others do well. That is why it really gets to me when I see people trying to drag others down into their own pits. Now that I know this is not the case, I have that much more respect for you Faolan."
"You say I need tougher skin and you might be right. But that doesn't mean I'm going to take your advice. I like my skin just how it is. I'm going to show the world that you can wear your heart on your sleeve and still thrive in this business. I don't need to make backhanded comments at my fellow man. I'd much rather offer them a smile and a helping hand. That is who I am, Faolan Reid. I'm not going to change for anyone, ever."
"I really don't know much about the inner workings of this business. I don't know the formula for success and I don't know what kind of person I have to be to have the highest chance of success. But I don't need to know any of those. The only formula for success I want to use is my own and chances or not, I'm not going to be anything but me. If I never hold a single championship title because of that then that's that. I'm not going to regret any of the decisions I've made."
"I'm not going to suddenly change and start chasing people down with a chair or a kendo stick. I'm going to go out there, do what I love to do, then offer my hand out of respect, whether they deserve it or not because that's who I am. I am proud of who I am. I am proud that I am one of the kindest people you'll ever meet. When I meet someone, I want to be their friend...I want to be friends with the whole world, as childish as that may sound...and the same goes for you Faolan. Win, lose, or draw, I want to be friends with you."
Geki would turn his head, looking up to the one holding the camera with a bright smile.
"I'll pick up a gift for the future little one! But before that's done, we're going to go out there and give the child a reason to be proud of its father. I wish you the best of luck, Faolan."
Lad, I’m done with words I will let my actions speak. I cannot to get into that ring and fight you. Of course lad it will be friendly competition.
The Irish man sat on a bench outside of the arena where in a few days he and Geki were going to wrestle. The words had come fast and were plenty but Faolan was done with speaking he was ready to fight.
At first Geki I didn’t know what you’d bring but you have smiled the whole time and that garners a little bit of respect lad. You could have broken that smile with the words I said but lad you stood there with your camera and you smiled and spoke to me. You kept that smile and that means something that means that when you get in the ring you’ll be a hard nut to crack or whatever you Americans say.
That earns some respect in my book. It shows me that you will fight hard no matter what I do to you. No matter if I put on the Celtic Cross you will fight and lad that is tough to do. But lad I will do the same I will fight no matter what I will look at you from across the ring and I will be ready. I will take the fight to you and that is the truth. No matter what you throw at me I will fight, no matter how ‘ard you hit me I will fight. No matter how big the smile is on your face I will fight. That is what I am about and lad that seems what you are about.
You love this business and you want to prove yourself to anyone that will listen. Lad that takes a lot of guts to prove people that you love this. I hope that you prove it to me, I hope that you try and beat me and if you do lad I will get up and I will shake your hand. You deserve that, I might have a gruff look on the outside but inside I want to do what I can to win and if I don’t I will get back up and look at another day.
He gets up and starts to walk towards his car he turns around and he keeps speaking.
So come to that ring when our match is about to happen Geki and realize that both of us want the same thing. A win, a friendship and one hell of a great match. Lad, we will do all of those things expect for the win one of us will have our hand raised the other won’t. One of us will be ‘appy and one of us will be a little disappointed but at the end of the day we both did our best. Lad that is all I ask give it to me.
