I'm starting to think that maybe REDEFINE Pro has something against the British. I mean, if my defeat of both Jordan Black & Dylan Windsor in the Welcome To REDEFINE Match at When Worlds Collide in Auckland, New Zealand this week wasn't enough, they now want me to follow up my pinfall victory on ultra-Brit Windsor by beating the UKs latest female export, 'Silver' Sophia Wilson.
Shortly after the match was announced, the usually social media shy Wilson sent me a message, short & simple:
"Bring your best. Let's show the boys how it's done!"
I understand the sentiment, but it's misguided. I'm way past the point of needing to prove that I deserve to stand among the boys in this business. Been there, done that, earned that stripe a long time ago. Nobody looks at Ash Scion as a Diva, a Knockout, a Vixxxen or even as a women's wrestler. Anyone who's anyone in this sport, or even just a fan of it, knows that Ash Scion is simply one of the most dangerous combat sports athletes on the planet earth. And that's true regardless of if I piss standing up or sitting down, understand?
I'm not saying I'm the only one either. There are lots of women in this sport who are just like me, who have already smashed that glass ceiling of "...oh, she's good, but not as good as the men...". Some of them are friends are mine, some are former team-mates even. Women like Alyssa Pryde, Alexis Sykes, Lava, Amy Street, Xaria Linette, Artemis Kaiser, Nina Stokes, Anna Molly, Sasha Foote, Avery Barnes, Flame Puppy... the list goes on & on. These aren't plastic actresses & models looking to use our sport to get a leg up... these are the real female combat sports athletes who are changing the game, each & every day.
So while I understand exactly what you were trying to say, Sophie, the fact is that every time you repeat something like that, you're already reinforcing the idea that we belong beneath the men. It's an idea that me & the other women I listed off have already been out there changing. So don't you subscribe to it for a second, or, if you absolutely have to, then don't try to pull me down there with you, because I already stand with... and quite often above... the men in this sport, a fact I proved right here in REDEFINE Pro in my debut match by beating two of them.
So who do you want to be, Sophie? Do you want to accept a role of always being a lesser athlete then your male counterparts or do you want to join the elite women athletes who've already proven that such distinctions never need to be made? Come show me.
Either way, when we get to my hometown for #REDEFINEManhattan, I'm going to beat you. Not out of malice, not out of any sort of personal dislike. I'm going to beat you because I only know how to win.

It's OK, Sophie. You don't really have to hold up your end of our contractual obligation to promote this match. It's fine. The REDEFINE Pro fans will already be there, they're already buying tickets. I mean, do you have any idea how long it's been since I wrestled in my hometown?
#AssesInSeats, that's the first part.
It's what I do, Sophie. I'm not just some run-of-the-mill contract fighter who shows up when they're told to fight, does their thing in the ring, gets paid, and then goes home. I make moments, Sophie. It starts by picking fights that I want and making them happen. It wasn't the case with you, this fight was assigned to me, but already here in REDEFINE Pro I've picked someone I wanted to fight, where & when I wanted to fight them, then I created hype for the fight, hype that then got the fight signed. And people are excited about it. Fans and our peers are talking about that fight, a fight that's two events down the road yet.
And I'll keep them excited.
But for now, I'm focused on you. And just like every other time I take that walk down to the ring, regardless of who else is fighting on the card or how high the stakes are for them, it's my match I want the fans excited about, talking about. I want to be the one who put those asses in those seats. I want the hype. It's easier when my opponent actually has something to say, but fuck it. I'll drag this match to the top with or without you, Sophie. I'll get them talking, I'll get them to spend their hard-earned money on tickets. I'll make them tune in.
And they'll do it.
Do you wanna know why?
They'll do it because I've spent the last 3 years earning their trust, Sophie. When I get in that ring, I make moments, just like I said earlier. Win or lose, no one ever forgets an Ash Scion fight. I'm exciting, I'm violent, and I sure am fun as all hell to watch. I know it, the fans know it, and our peers across the industry know it. That's why some of the biggest names in our sport are already talking about getting their tickets for that match in South Philly. Because they know that I'm going to deliver.
But you and me? Look at it this way, Sophie: It's been 18 months since I wrestled in front of my hometown crowd. I've got friends, family in NYC. My first match on North American soil for REDEFINE Pro, and it's in my city, the greatest city on the planet. So even though I didn't come looking for this fight, even though I bear you zero ill will, the question you need to ask yourself is this: In this city, in this company, with so much at stake going forward, how bad does Ash Scion want to win this match?
Really, really bad.
