We open on Caliban standing in front of the 2CW backdrop with a grin on his face
Caliban: Finally! Finally for one week I don't need to hear the words Bulletscars, those guys like to tell us all that they are the biggest thing in this company and that may be true but only because you have more people in your clique than most have in suburban family. But this week! This week I get to take on someone I can say I have no ill will towards, do you know how longs its been since I had a straight up contest of skill with an opponent in a 2CW ring, it's been one war after another since this company came back, not that I'm complaining but it will be a nice change of pace or at least it would be but you see this match is another battle in what I consider the most important war of my career. Ladies and Gentlemen the truth is Caliban has never held a singles title worthy of note, I have held a trash title in a company that only kept it around for shits and giggles and I consider it the drowning point of my rookie year.
He lights a smoke
Caliban: Sophia I will not stutter and stumble when I tell you that this tournament is the only thing on my mind, YOU ARE THE ONLY THING ON MY MIND! That is a very very dangerous place to be, on Saturday night I don't have to worry about my tag title, I don't have to worry about my partner all I have to worry about is advancing to the next round of the 2CW TV title tournament and become this companies only first time ever double champion not to mention becoming the only man to claim the top spot on the champions column for 2 titles in one company a feat that I don't see happening often in this industry of ours. As for my opponent Wilson is an incredibly capable, heavy hitting, huge hearted competitor, don't get me wrong by my words I am not over confident going into this match, I have never been one of those men who believed that woman don't have a place in the ring with us and if anything on Saturday night I will give Sophia the chance she has been waiting for to show what she is capable of and I promise I will take every bit of offence she has but I guarantee it won't be enough and not because she is a female but because even the biggest men in this company have seen there best be taken by the artful dodger of pro wrestling and it not get the job done. Sophia no matter how fast you are I'm faster, no matter how smart you are I'm smarter. Ladies and Gentlemen my name is Jordan Caliban and I will be the first 2CW TV Champ, don't believe me? Just watch

Sophia: SON… OF… A…
The following screech was enough to rattle the windows of her cramped, run down apartment building in downtown Chicago. She slammed her hands down on her desk, causing everything on it to shake and her laptop to spit out an error message.
She had just, finally, gotten her internet connection sorted and the first tweet she read was THIS?!
Three days ago she’d been ecstatic, the news of 2CW’s upcoming event with New Japan Fighting Championship had conjured up images of dreams fulfilled. The chance to engage with some of Puroresu’s finest. The promise of a real test of her talents. The possibility of fulfilling a lifelong dream of wrestling in the Tokyo Dome.
And now… once again… he had gone and ruined it.
What if he won?
What if he went on to win the Heavyweight Fighting Championship?
Sophia slumped down on her bed, head in her hands. How could this happen? She’d won her first 2CW match convincingly, the odds of her winning were being slashed.
Most importantly, people were finally starting to take notice.
How had this suddenly managed to go so wrong in so little time?
No, she couldn’t think of that. She had to keep focussed. She had a match for god’s sake!
Sophia slumped back on the bed and stared up at the dirty crack-coated ceiling. She reached for her bedside table and grabbed her phone, and with a few clicks and swipes found herself staring at the 2CW website.
She stared at the tournament brackets.
Sophia: Caliban… Caliban Caliban Caliban… ah…
With a click, Caliban’s full promo appeared.
“Wilson is an incredibly capable, heavy hitting, huge hearted competitor….”
The compliment failed to lift Sophia’s mood. A smile didn’t even approach her face. The feeling gnawed away at her like a razor toothed rat.
She’d moved half way across the country, left the safety blanket of the Georgia Indies, and he’d still found a way to re-insert himself into her life.
And that only ever led to one conclusion.
She could see it now. His face on every poster. Every spotlight bouncing off his trademark fighting gear. Every camera lens pointed at that stupid bald-headed grinning face.
And what about her?
Back to being “Icon Kellar’s neice” or “Sensei Kellar’s student”
Defined by another. No shadow of her own
She stood up from the bed, dropping her phone as she did.
Sophia: AAAAARGGHHHH!!!
With a swing of one of her powerful legs she sent her desk chair flying across the room, sending it crashing into the front door.
“It won’t be enough…
“I’m faster…”
“I’m smarter…”
Sophia snarled, her eyes narrowing and her teeth grinding together.
Sophia: What you are… hun… is in my way…
She snatched her workout gear from the flea bitten rag covered mess that was laughably described a “couch”, grabbed her keys, and made her way to the door.
Before, winning the TV title was a dream.
Now it was a necessity. |

We see Caliban sitting behind a computer watching a video on the screen, the voice in the speakers sounds like Sophia Wilson, the newest part of her life and rebirth type short documentary has just been up loaded to you tube. As the video ends Caliban calmly turns to the Go-Pro that has been filming him since he started watching
Caliban: Normally I can't tell an opponent why I am going to beat them, how I know I'm going to walk beyond their presence and transcend in the aftermath of our conflict, but with Sophia I can pretty much lay it out on the table, you see what makes me as good as I am, what makes me able to do the things I do without a second thought and still be able to land them with the precision of a marks man who has spent 3 hours lining up his shot. The answer is not simply training or hard work because anyone in this business who has made any kind of career at it has done the exact same thing, it's because I am free, I do not hold grudges or past worries and hatreds, I have forgiven those who have wronged me and no longer see their faces in my dreams but you Sophia have not been able to do the same, you have not been able to extend your former mentor that same courtesy and it makes you an easy target. How do you expect to stand up to a competitor as confident and competent as The Artful Dodger Of Pro Wrestling when you can't even stand up to your shadows
He lights a smoke
Caliban: Now I don't claim to know about what happened between you and Keller, it's not my business but unfortunately for you Sophia you are my business right now and everything you have shown us about yourself since you have been here has exposed a giant gaping hole in that psyche of yours, I am an exploiter Sophia, I take advantage of weakness of the mind. Sophia Wilson I am your predator, I am the man who is going to remove your from the field of glory and move on to the next round of this tournament and every match I will continue to make an example of my opponent to show the next one what he has to deal with. The unbearable feeling of helplessness as I second guess every move they make, that feeling of loneliness as I move round the ring so fast they can't see me. I am already this companies television champion because I am the best damn thing on 2CW TV, you know it, Pariah knows it, our champion knows it and Sophia Wilson does too

Sophia leaned back against the ropes and took a deep breath. With a gut driven roar she kept forward and drove her right leg into the pad with a crane kick. She followed up with a few middle kicks, then finished the sequence with a reverse roundhouse.
Her sparring partner / victim, Jeremy, backed away slowly, pulling his hand out of the focus pad and shaking it. Sophia retrieved her water bottle and drank deep.
Jeremy: Agh! Jesus, Silver! What happened? Some guy leave you?
Sophia: The opposite... reset...
Jeremy: No way, Im quitting while I've still got wrists left!
Sophia: I need more...
Jeremy: Silver you're in the best shape I've ever seen you. You could bend steel with those kicks right now.
He removed the other focus mitt and threw it to one side. Looking at the young blonde in front of him he tapped his head.
Jeremy: Your problem... is up here.
Sophia snarled and pointed out of the ring
Sophia: My problem is out in Japan just waiting... waiting to come back into my life. My uncle...
Jeremy: You've got a match for 2CW against Jordan Calliban and you're saying your problem is your uncle? Who's hundreds of miles away? Sophia, this guy is going to cream you if you don't get your head straight.
Sophia: My head is perfectly straight.
Jeremy: You need all your focus. This guy is quick, he's adaptive, there's a reason they call him the Artful Dodger of wrestling...
Sophia: What does that even mean? Why is he so proud of comparing himself to a bad DJ from the late 90s.
Jeremy raised his eyebrow
Jeremy: Please tell me you're kidding...
Sophia shrugged
Jeremy: Oliver Twist? The Artful Dodger?
Nothing.
Jeremy: You never read Dickens?
Sophia: I... hit someone over the head with his collected works in a school fight. Does that count?
Jeremy: Er, the musical with Ron Moody? The Artful Dodger, the cockney kid in the top hat...
Sophia: So... he's going to company-number me into submission? Actually, come to think of it...
Jeremy: Ok... look. The Artful Dodger got his name because he was so quick he was practically invisible. By the time people knew he was there, they'd already lost something precious. You catch me?
Sophia: You think he can beat me?
Jeremy: I think if your minds eye is too busy looking at Japan instead of watching him then you're going to lose something precious...
Sophia: So... I should just bury my feelings?
Jeremy: It couldn't hurt!
Sophia: I've got a better idea... how about I let those feelings out all over Calliban's nice side parting topped pretty boy face, and take my place in the final? Then when I take my TV title and my uncle gets here I can rub it in his stupid smug face...
Sophia shoved her water bottle into Jeremy's chest and made her way out of the ring. He shrugged.
Jeremy: That could work too... |
