TV Title Number One Contenders Tournament: Carmen Cambridge vs Abby Watkins

The trainer gently puts his hand on Carmen Cambridge's ribs and gives a gentle push to which Carmen yelps in pain and quickly goes into protective mode, bringing her arm down slowly to shield the trainer from touching them again. She shoots him a look.
"I can barely take a deep breath right now and you gonna keep touchin' my ribs? I told your goofy self that they hurt, dang."
The Darkhorse notices the camera filming them and sits up straight, favoring her ribs still as her lips twist to show the pain she's experiencing.
"All my haters out there are probably laughing right now, and that's okay. Carmen got her's two weeks in a row."
She pauses again, trying to collect her breath which is still hard to do.
"Say what you want but I just pushed the TV Champion and the World Champion, the combined tag team champions to their absolute limit two weeks in a row. No one in this company has had tougher competition. Try and dispute it, but its FACT. They hold all of the gold and I wrestled both of 'em consecutively. The outcome didn't go the way I would have liked, but you can't win 'em all."
Carmen puts her manicured right hand on her ribcage and begins rubbing gently.
"Next week, I'ma get back where I wanna be. I get the chance to be one of four people competing in a mini tournament to determine the number one contender for the TV Championship. First round I'ma have to face someone I've actually grown close with over the last few weeks, Abby Watkins.
Abby and I have history, but our only encounter ended with her team beating mines for the Tag Team Championships. Abby knows as well as I do that this isn't personal, its business. Business wise, Abby? I'ma do what I have to do to get back in the spotlight.
You beat Mars Tetch tonight, that's cute but I already did that. Before that you were on a mini losing streak, just like I'm on now. Its definitely not Gucci, but I'ma break that this week. Here's the thing Abby, when you and Jasmine defeated Beauty and the Beast, it was Grayson who lost for us, surprise surprise. This is different. You aren't facing a Carmen Cambridge who is desperate, you're facing a Carmen Cambridge who is determined."
Carmen stands up off the table in the training room, heading slowly towards the door, stopping before getting there.
"Experience is something you can't buy and I'm rich in it compared to Abby. Listen, Watkins, we Gucci, you cool and all, but next week you're standing between me and a goal of mines, and that is chasing championship gold. Don't take it personal when I snatch your weave and win that match, placing me one step closer to the TV Championship. Sorry boo boo."
Cambridge slowly walks out of the training room as the camera fades to black.

"Friends. What do friends mean in a business like ours? They watch your back, are a shoulder to lean on when things get rough. They dust you off and tell you that you're Gucci after a tough loss. They are real, genuine. They share secrets."
A smile creeps across the lips of Carmen Cambridge.
"There's no secret that Abby and I started off on the wrong foot. She called me names, I called her a broomstick with weave, we didn't like each other, at all. But something changed along the way and we gained a mutual respect for each other. Not gonna lie, the girl has a dope eye for fashion too. That's personally though. This is business. And this match between us, Abby, Abster, whatever you wanna call yourself, it has big time implications.
I'm destined to be a star. I'm destined to the face of Redefine. Look at what I did in WWA, I was their breakout star. I stole the spotlight from people that most said I'd never be able to compete with-what up Ajax!"
Carmen waves sassily into the camera, winking, in a nod to the big victory she had over Johnny Ajax to win his 51 percent stake in WWA for Miles Blake.
"Don't trip, Abby, I'm not saying that you aren't destined to be a star one day too, but that day won't be at Redefine 26. Along the path of our friendship, you shared a secret about your family with me. Now, I promised I wouldn't tell anyone, but boo boo, promises are meant to be broken. If worrying your little head about me possibly spilling the secret is what I have to do to throw you off your game, I'ma do it. If I have to actually go through with it and tell the world your little family secret, and who your brother is before you get the chance to do it? I'll do it. I'll do whatever it takes to win.
Call it low, call it whatever you want, I call it smart. A lot of what we do is physical, but there's a large chunk of it that is emotionally driven too, mind games boo boo. See the thing is though, I ain't playin any games, I'm keepin it all the way real. If you think you are coming into our match next week with some kind of advantage because of my ribs, trust I'ma make sure mentally you are broken.
Don't hate me though, because if you were smart and I told you a secret on that level, you would use it as leverage against me too. As far as the physical aspect, have you watched my matches? I may have lost to the tag champions, the World, TV champions, but I took 'em to their limit. No one has faced the level of competition I have in the last two weeks, and after two losses, its time to get back to my winning ways. The Darkhorse is coming."

How does it feel to get your first singles victory....?
That was what she had asked me, but I just locked up upon hearing the words. It hadn't really sunk in yet because I had just finished the match. I didn't really know what to say, because my brain had not yet wrapped around it. So, in typical Abby fashion, I stuttered and mumbled.
"I... uh... well... mmm.. yeah..."
It wasnt my most graceful moment. What did they want from me though? I hadn't even got to change out of my ring gear or anything. I didnt even have the chance to get a bottle of water or a breather. It was more of an ambush than an interview.
Abby?
God. This bitch was persistent. Can she not see the struggle? Or is she just too desperate for a scoop that she doesn't care? I cant say that though. C'mon Abby, get your shit together.
"It hasn't really sunk in yet, sorry. I mean, you saw it out there. It's just... yeah."
I have to offer her a smile. I mean, if I am not going to give her anything more about the match, and at least have to look good doing it.
So, word is you might be back on track to get a TV title shot soon?
Wait, what did she just say? Did she just say title? As in single? As in not the tag titles? As in, something just for me? Calm down. Dont show that surprise. Stay cool.
"That would be great, but it seems a little premature. I mean, I am still out of breath after my first singles win. I am sure that there are plenty of people further up the line than me. I am still known as the newbie tag team girl. That's not the kind of person that you offer a singles championship match to. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that I wouldn't jump at the chance, but I just don't see why they would take a chance on me. If my last few weeks have shown management anything, it's that my lack of experience has finally started to catch up to me."
"Tag team wrestling means absolutely nothing when it comes to singles matches, and singles titles. So, if you think about it, they would be offering a title shot to someone who is 1-2 in matches a shot at a title. That tag team stuff is a different world than this. I am just not sure that I have earned it yet. There are others, like Carmen for instance, who have had more success as an individual than me. If anyone should be in the conversation for a singles championship it is her. Granted, she has kind of been getting in a little over her head the last week or so, but we will see what shakes out for her tonight. I have faith.
Who knows though, we will see."

Carmen is just finishing watching the interview Abby had conducted following her victory against Mars Tetch at Redefine 25. She closes the videowire on her phone, looking into the camera.
"So, I have to say that I actually agree with Abby on this one. When she was told she would have a chance to get in the race for the TV title, she seemed surprised, shocked even. She was quick to spit out one name who deserves to be in the TV title picture though...and that name was Carmen Cambridge."
Carmen smirks.
"Abby has been paying attention to the waves I've been making, and I applaud her for that. Abby was right about another thing, she hasn't done anything to even be deserving of this opportunity. If we're keeping it real, neither has Jason Richards. Jacob Daniels I can get with though. Anyways, back to Abby. Abby, that's my girl now, but besides the tag team run, she has kinda been off the radar. In order to be a champion, you should stand out a lil' bit, and Abby hasn't stood out, instead she's faded into the background. Lemme give you some advice, Abby."
Carmen lifts her phone up, showing it off.
"Start promoting yourself, boo boo. The most attention you have gotten so far in your career was when you and I were goin' at it on twitter. Now, don't come at me because I don't wanna have to snatch that weave, but...do something. Make noise. Make people aware of who you is. Then, get in the ring and prove that you can back up every single world you talk, just like I can.
This mini-tournament is designed to make someone like me an even bigger star than I already am. It can do wonders for you too though, Abby. Even in defeat, we can steal the show, but it takes more than one of us to do that.
Here's what I want you to do. I want you to reach deep down inside yourself, find that confidence you had back during our lil' tag team beef, and bring that Abby out. I don't want no dang free pass to the finals next week, I want to beat you at your best and show you that even at your greatest, unfortunately for you, you aren't on my level...yet.
This might not be your time, and you are definitely outmatched boo, but you can learn from me while we're in the ring. If you watch my matches from the last two weeks, I might not have won, but ask yourself if you could take the champions to the limits I took 'em to?
The answer is no, you can't. Redefine fans, ya'll better enjoy this next month, because I could be on my way out if Pariah doesn't step up and make it worth it for me to stay at the end of December.
Pariah, want a reason to resign me? Watch my match with Abby, boo."

The camera opens up with Carmen Cambridge holding up her Redefine Pro contract. In recent days, due to the Redefine Recap, news of the Darkhorse's demand for more money on a new contract has become talk among the locker room, and social media. Carmen drags her finger under the bold print reading 'December 31, 2015'.
"December 31st, less than two months and my contract with Redefine Pro officially expires. Now, since the lil' blog decided to out my intentions to ask for big monies to resign, I can just confirm that the info is true, and why wouldn't it be? Since I've joined Redefine, I've been one of the more talked about people here. Not to mention I actually last longer than two weeks. We've seen so many people come in, say they are changing the game and two or three weeks later, they stop posting videos to the video wire and they disappear.
Me? Boo boo I puts in work. I'ma demand more monies because on top of being one of the best wrestlers in this company, week in and week out I show up and I do my thing. So Pariah, that lil offer you faxed me yesterday? Miss me with it. Not nearly what I feel I'm worth. If you want a reason to sign me long term, look at what I did in the IWA. I debuted there, and in one night I became a championship contender, cost someone their job, and then in the days since, I have the most anticipated match on their Pay Per View next week against Ash Scion. Why? Because I entertain in and out of the ring. I does this for real.
Want another reason, Pariah? Watch this match Abby and I are about to have. Its cray actually, I saw you suggest on twitter yesterday bringing in Heel Vixens to fight DBV, the tag, world and tv champions. The eff is you thinkin, boo boo? Neither Abby or myself have gotten a rematch for the tag titles, and you gonna try and bring two others in and have them leap over us for a match with the champions? Just as you had Ajax leap over everyone for a World title contenders match? Naaah...not the way you resign a talent like me.
Abby deserves better too, but don't worry Ab, this week we're gonna steal the show. Why? Because I'm in the match. I know you gonna hold it down too, but I gots this.
Think of it as a basketball player during a contract year, they go harder than everyone to prove they are worth big monies. That's where I'm at right now. If you thought I was something before, pay attention for the next month and a half. I'ma not be cliché and say I'ma Redefine the company, but I'ma Redefine what everyone thinks of Carmen Cambridge.
Don't believe me? Just watch."

The video starts with Abby, at her desk in her apartment, running a brush through her hair. She smiles, shrugging lightly as she puts it down.
"Why the brush?"
She moves her fingers through her hair and pulls on it. She throws it back anf forth over each shoulder and smiles.
"I just wanted to show you that this here... is all me. There aint any fake shit attached to it. So, the only weave about to get pulled out in this match is yours, and when people see that busted ass haircut you have without that shit attached to it, you going to have to kiss them big dollar signs on your next contract goodbye."
She laughs lightly, and winks at the camera.
"I am not going to take back any of my words. I am not going to backpedal, or say that anything I said was untrue. Carmen is a bigger star here than I am. Her losing streak is something to be looked at as progress against some of the best here. My losing streak was just plain lack of experience. Carmen is someone that deserves to be in this tournament, without question and without second thought. Me? I lucked in."
She waves her hand at the camera, brushing that thought off so she can clarify.
"Luck is something that I am completely fine with riding out though. Luck brought me to this industry. Luck brought me to this company. Luck gave me my tag team championship reign. If my recent history were to have stopped there, then I could hardly complain. We all know that isn't the case though. The rest of my recent history shows that sometimes it is better to be lucky than good, because when my luck ran out, it turns out I wasnt quite good enough, yet. That was exactly what I meant when I said I didn't think I deserved to be up for this tournament. I dont think I am ready for this shot, yet."
She shrugs again, holding up her hands, palms up to show her defenselessness against those claims.
"When will I be ready for this shot? If I had to guess, I would need to build up some confidence first. I would need to beat someone who I thought was a real challenger for the title. I would need at least two more weeks after that to prepare mentally for going up against a real champion. So, by my calculations, and I was pretty good at math in school, I should be ready for this title shot right around the time I win this tournament. That starts with beating someone that I came into this company to beat. Last time, we both had partners. We can spin that match and its result about a million different ways. The fact remains, Carmen said I wasn't ready. She said I wasnt experienced enough. At the end of that night though, I still walked out with her gold."

The video opens up with Abby taping up her hands in the gym. She is sitting down on a bench next to a speed bag that another member of the facility is absolutely dominating with his speed. The sounds of it going off of each of his hands and going back to slap the wall is almost like maginegun gun fire. Abby looks up at to the bag with a smile before turning back to the camera.
"Enough of this talk talk of your nappy ass hair and your snatching of my imaginary weave. That doesnt have anything to do with anything. People enjoy trading insults over these little hype videos, but that isn't necessarily what the people want to see. They want to see why someone is going to win, and why someone is going to lose. They want to see, and they want to learn, which person is going to win, so that when then put their hard earned money on someone, they can do so with peace of mind. Now, going in, I onow there are going to be a lot of people putting money on me to pull this upset."
She shakes her head and puts the tape down next to her as the man steps away from the bag to continue his workout elsewhere. She squares her shoulders to the bag and starts rocking it back and forth with left handed jabs.
".... and yes, this would be an upset Carmen. You seem to think that since I attacked you personally that I dont think highly of you. This wouldn't have gotten personal if you hadn't made it that way. I did notice your incredibly soft shell in doing so though. You talk, and you do it a lot, not only about your strengths, but about what you conceive as your opponent's mental weakness. You attempt to attack what people think of as their worst quality. This time, you failed to point mine out. In actuality, you let me walk into yours. You got awfully protective of them nappy roots of yours."
Abby hits the bag with a hard right hand and ducks her shoulder as the bag comes swinging over her right shoulder. She moves around behind the bag and starts rotating left and rights from the other side.
"Just like last time we were in a match together, you tried to use your words to pinpoint mental weakness. You should stop that. If anything, you should have learned from last time that, that shit doesnt work on me. It only fired me up more Carmen. It only made me want to step into a ring and shut your mouth. If I remember correctly, I did that. Regardless of who took the fall, or made the pin, we shut you up, and showed your talk was all trash and nothing more."
Abby raises her hand to stop the bag to look at the camera.
"Don't be the old Carmen. I beat her already."

"You wanna talk about who's gonna win the match and why? We can do that Abby, but I'ma tell you this ONE TIME...leave my hair alone. Just because I threatened to snatch your weave doesn't mean you have to get personal."
Carmen looks annoyed, glaring into the camera.
"If anyone has any questions about who is going to win this match, lemme save you the confusion and clear it up right now. I'm gonna win this match. Abby, deep down inside, knows she can't beat me. Why else would she call it an upset if she thought she could beat me? Pause..."
Carmen smirks.
"I already know how you're gonna replay to that, Abby. You gonna say it would be an upset because nobody expects you to win, even though you believe in yourself. Lemme ask this though, why do you think everyone expects me to win? Simple, because I'm better and I've proved it. On top of headlining shows elsewhere, on top of going toe to toe with the champions of this company, and on top of beating men like Johnny Ajax, there's one other factor.
Experience.
For a relative newcomer, I can't hate on you. You are one of the people I see going far in this business one day. Not only do you work hard, you have a personality, and you can wrestle. You just can't wrestle as good as me. That comes with time, boo boo. You can't be thrown into a company like Redefine with a partner, have one huge upset, and then think things are gonna get easier from then. Nah, that isn't how it works. There are YEARS of training, getting your butt kicked, and getting back up that comes along with the territory as well.
You've only scratched the surface so far. This match with me, a one on one match might I add, you're gonna learn a few thangs boo. First, you're gonna learn to respect me. Second, you're gonna learn that I'm not just someone who talks loud without backing it up. Everyone seems to think I'm a loudmouth, but what people fail to realize is I talk as much as I do because I know I can back it up. Finally, you're gonna learn that before the reward comes a whole lot of earning. Your partner is gone, and regardless of what you say, that win over Beauty & The Beast WAS an upset.
This time its one on one. Carmen against Abby. 3 year pro against rookie. Star vs S.I.T-Star in Training.
I expect you to come out, all hyped up, thinking you might actually be able to win, but by the end of the night, you're gonna know that it simply isn't your time yet.
The TV championship is the first step in my journey to the top of Redefine. After I win, Pariah can no longer deny me of my path to the World Title. My future begins now, yours has to wait, Abby."

"Sorry Carmen, the word you are looking for, you haven't seemed to have found yet. You know? The single word that is going to sum up exactly who and why the person that wins this match is going to walk onto the next stage of this tournament."
"That word isn’t, experience."
"That word isn’t, upset."
"That word is, focus."
"You seem to be rattling off the same things that you said to me the first time that I stepped into the ring with you. You keep hyping your past. You keep talking about that fact that you are already an established commodity. Let me ask you a question though. How does one become established?
"I don't want you to get lost in your thoughts for too long. I want you to listen. So, this time, I will just give you the answer. You, and everyone else, started out as a rookie, just like me. You started out after years of training and then put your name on the dotted line of your first contract. When you did that, you started at the bottom. How did you become established? You stepped on each and every person that was already a commodity until you got to where you seem to have peaked... right in the middle."
"So, don't give me the same old inexperienced rookie bullshit. Don't give me your history. Don't give me your aspirations. There is one thing that this match is going to come down to, and that is which of us is more focused."
"Me? I have spent every waking moment thinking about this match. I wake up thinking about it. It's on my mind every time I train. It is the last thing I contemplate before I drift into peaceful sleep."
"You, cannot, honestly say the same thing. Since this match was announced you have been all over the place. You talk about the next step in the tournament and dismiss any possibility of my win. You talk about the title match you are going to win when the tournament is said and done. You have mentioned your world title aspirations. Then, of course, how could we miss your whining for a new and bigger contract."
"Carmen, you are not focused on what matters. Your words are like scattershot. Your thoughts come out in phrases that do little more than ramble. The reason that you are going to lose is because instead of looking at me, you are looking past me. You're looking at the championships you may or may not ever touch in the future. You are looking at your contract for next year. Me? I am looking at you. I am focused on nothing other than this weekend. Tournament be damned, I have beaten you in tag team action and now I am dead set on making sure the same thing happens when it is just us in the ring. This time, when you're 0-for-2 against me, nobody will think it's an upset."

Carmen Cambridge is standing outside the building where the first ever Redefine Fight Club event is to be held later in the night. The sign behind her reads 'V.I.P only-Sold Out' in regards to the Redefine show.
"Abby, you are reaching so far right now. Having the nerve to say I'm not focused on this match. Boo boo, I can multi-task. I can focus on this match, while focusing on my upcoming match with Ash Scion, while focusing on this...the debut of Fight Club tonight."
Carmen steps back a little, in order to gaze up at the sign proudly.
"V.I.P only for this event, and its not confirmed but rumor has it I'm in the main event tonight. You know what that means, Abby? That all of the hard work you talked about, the starting from the bottom, it paid off. You're right, I was in your shoes at one point. I was a rookie, and I had to earn my way to where I am now, but I made it through a lot of hard work, and...I mean look at me, I LOOK like a star. There's only so long you can hold someone like me down.
Point is, I had my tail kicked a lot when I was a rookie, but unlike most who decide at that point that this isn't for them, y'know, like your partner who up and left you, I kept coming back for more. Are you gonna be able to say the same, or are you gonna end up just like your partner Jasmine? Running away, never to be heard from again?
For you to even question my confidence going into this match is cray cray to me. As soon as you lost your tag partner, what happened? You started losing matches left and right. That losing streak was for serious, girl. When I LEFT Grayson, dropping that dead weight, what happened? I immediately began wrestling in headlining, high profile matches. I might not have won them all, but it was enough to prove to Pariah and everyone else that I deserved to be at the top of the card. I mean, who else wrestled Ciserano and Caliban in back to back weeks, nearly beating them? Who else kicked out of Caliboom in Redefine? Surely wasn't you Abby.
You have this confidence about you too, but its a sarcastic confidence, more like arrogance. Its Gucci to have that when you earned it, but so far, you haven't. I mean go back to your little interview as soon as Redefine 25 was finished and when you were told about this tournament. You immediately said you didn't belong...but someone like CARMEN CAMBRIDGE did. Out of all the names you could have thrown out, mines was the first to come off your tongue.
In your heart even you know this tournament is designed for me to win. Why don't you just take this L with a smile, accept it boo."

"It is hard to say that I am reaching when the things you say in response to me don't quite add up to what I said. I have never questioned your confidence Carmen. I have no reason to bring up your confidence, or the drive you have within yourself that tells you that you are going to win. What I questioned was your focus, and your only response to that was that you can multitask. Multitasking is all well and good, until you drop the ball. Stretching yourself to get your name out only works in your favor until the night you stretch yourself too thin."
"You said tonight you are wrestling a match. Should I not be insulted by that fact? Again, you aren't focused on me, but something else. You talk about the fact that I don't have experience, but at least I learn from my experiences. You took on the tag team champions, two people that make up the most success in this company, in back to back weeks. Your claim to fame is that you ALMOST beat them. Almost doesn't count for anything in this business. As far as I am concerned I can say the exact same thing. I ALMOST beat Death By Velocity, and ALMOST retained my tag team titles. You know what you would say to that? Anything less than success is a failure. You have a confidence about you that makes you oblivious to the fact that, since my arrival here, you haven't done much that I haven't done. You held a tag team title. You lost it. You lost to Caliban and Cisarano. You went on a losing streak. You lost a tag team partner. These are all things that I have done as well. So, if we are going by recent exploits, we are more balanced than I gave myself credit for after my last match."
"If you want to hold something against me that I said when blindsided after a match? Go ahead and do that Carmen. I want you to cling to that hope that I am doubting myself. That way, the first time I punch you in your make-up heavy face, you'll feel that confidence. The surprise of just how wrong you were is only going to work in my favor. You talk a great game Carmen, I am not going to lie and say that you don't, but here are the facts."
"You have a history of biting off more than you can chew, and losing as a result."
"You're stretching yourself too thin. There is no way you enter our match at 100% after you headline a show tonight."
"Your eyes are focused too far ahead to see me coming."
"As I have said once before, tournament be damned, I am coming at you to beat you. I am coming at you because you you don't think I am good enough."
"I will prove you wrong. Not because I can, but because I have to."

The main event of #FightClub had just concluded. Ajax, and Death by Velocity have moved on to the backstage area, but Carmen Cambridge didn't. Carmen stepped back into the ring holding a microphone, looking out at the approximate 115 people that had purchased VIP tickets to see this untelevised event.
Carmen looks fired up, still in her ring gear. The fans hesitate to file out, waiting to see what the Darkhorse is going to say.
"What you all just saw tonight was me teaming with someone for the first time in Johnny Ajax, and what did we do? We took out the tag...team...champions."
Carmen smirks as the fans begin boo'ing. All it does is fire up Cambridge even more.
"Hey Abby, I hope you were watching. You questioned my focus earlier, talking about 'how can you be focused when you're headlining a show tonight?' Guess you didn't expect to be on the same show, did you? If I'm not 100 percent heading into our match tomorrow, neither are you. And guess what? Out of everyone at the Fight Club event, I wasn't just a part of the show boo boo, I HEADLINED it.
I'm focused on our match tomorrow night, more so now than ever. For as great as you could be one day, right now, I'm BETTER."
The fans begin to let Cambridge hear it even more, boo'ing her again. She just smiles and motions with her hands for them to keep them coming.
"Boo me all you want ninja's, but its true. I'm BETTER than Abby Watkins. It wasn't Abby Watkins main eventing tonight, it wasn't Abby Watkins that was just in a TV championship match at Vendetta and it wasn't Abby Watkins that attracted Xavier here to Redefine. I helped bring Saito to Redefine...I'M the star here, not her.
Abby, tomorrow night, you're in over your head. You said I cling to the hope that you doubt yourself, nah boo boo, I don't cling to anything. I'm confident in the fact that as good as you are, I'ma be that much better tomorrow night.
You named off parallels in our career in an earlier video, that's cool, but what about what we've done elsewhere? I've beaten Ajax, I've been a singles champion, a tag champion, I'm about to win gold in the IWA, I headline shows, have you done ANY of that besides the tag team title run? Nah.
That's what makes me better. What else makes me better is the fact that these people LOVE me, whether they admit it or not!"
The crowd begins chanting.
Crowd: "SHUT UP CARMEN! SHUT UP CARMEN!"
Carmen: "Keep it up boo boo's, you know if I left Redefine it would be more boring without me. I'ma keep it short and sweet, Abby, you might think I'm lookin' beyond you, but tomorrow night I'm coming for you...straight up. Only one of us can advance in the tournament, and I want that belt more than anything."

Abby is seen coming through the back of the arena following the Fight Club show and her win against Lillith Morgan. An interview crew stand in the way of her leaving the arena. She throws the strap of her gym bag over her shoulder, and lets it hang there instead of holding it by the handles. She greets them with a smile, much more confident than she had following her previous win.
Interviewer: “Abby, tomorrow you go one on one with Carmen Cambridge in the TV Title tournament. You said that she was more deserving of a shot than you last week, but how do you feel now?”
Abby gives a laugh and rolls her eyes. She knew that something like this was coming but, after everything she had been through tonight, she wasn't in the mood for sharing.
Abby: “I feel great.”
Abby doesn't break her stride, walking past them without acknowledging them further. However, it is the next comment that stops her in her tracks.
Interviewer: “Did you catch what Carmen said about you after her match?”
Abby stops and turns around.
Abby: “What of it?”
Interviewer: “You have no comment about you being in over your head because she is better than you?”
Abby drops her bag off of her shoulder and steps up into the interviewer’s face, pulling the microphone from her hand and talking directly into the camera instead.
“Here is the thing Carmen, you just watched me go one on one with Lillith Margan for ten minutes. At the end, I not only had to beat her, but also fight off two jackasses that I already beat once. You, on the other hand, had to rely on a partner to pick up your victory for you, and then have the nerve to attack me verbally after the match? You think because you have had success other places, that you are better? Newsflash, before I signed here, I was undefeated in LAW. The only reason I left there was to give this company everything that I have. You want to talk about other companies? Step to me when you are undefeated in one that didn't just close up shop.”
“You want to talk about a win over Ciserano and Caliban? Talk to me when they didn't just stomp you in back to back weeks. Talk to me when you actually beat someone on your own instead of letting your partner do all the work. Lastly, you want to talk about being in over my head? You just got in over your head, love. I was already determined to beat you. I was already focused on this match and nothing else… but now? Now, I am also pissed off. Believe me, if you think what I can do in that ring regularly is impressive, you haven't seen anything yet. Once again, your mouth has got into into a situation where there is only one way out.”
“That way, is yet another loss.”
